Brook scores two more goals to lead Longhorn offense with five over her first five career matches.

AUSTIN, Texas -- On Friday night in front of the largest crowd (1,908) in the history of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer program, Texas (3-0-2) remained unbeaten by putting six goals in the net for the first time since the 2007 campaign to defeat the Islanders, 6-0.

Prior to tonight's offensive outburst, the last time the Horns scored six times in a single match was back on Sept. 14, 2007, versus University of Texas at San Antonio. UT out-shot TA&M-CC by a commanding 27-3 total and managed a 17-2 advantage on corners.

Freshman forward Olivia Brook continued the amazing start to her rookie season in burnt orange and white, scoring two more goals and dishing a pair of helpers to give her a team-best five scores and 12 total points in 2014. The Houston, Texas, native is now off to the best offensive start for any freshman in Texas Soccer program history with five scores over her initial quintet of matches.

Senior defender Brooke Gilbert registered her third score, while sophomore forward Jasmine Hart and junior midfielder Lindsey Meyer each tallied their initial goals of the year. Junior midfielder Sharis Lachappelle, Hart and senior defender Whitney Jaynes all recorded single assists.

"I was really pleased with our second-half performance," Texas head coach Angela Kelly said. "I challenged the team at halftime, and we really needed to change our level. Our goals were fantastic. Olivia Brook's goals were truly world-class. She continues to impress every single match. I was most pleased with the clean sheet on the defensive side of the ball. Another shutout for Abby Smith who made a great first-half save. I thought we found a good rhythm and kept the ball well. Being disciplined, holding space and taking space, those are all things I am pleased about in tonight's performance."

Texas' offense had the early run of play against the Islanders. The outburst started in the fourth minute on a beautiful cross by Jaynes that found the foot of junior forward Chantale Campbell about 10 yards out in the middle of the 18. The London, Ontario, Canada, native was marked tightly, and her volleyed try drifted wide left.

Just seconds later, Lachappelle managed to create some space at the top left of the box and fired a left-footed blast that drifted high of frame.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi looked to answer back on a quick break as forward Yvette Franco took off on a marked sprint down pitch during the 13th minute. Jaynes tracked back quickly to shut down any threat, however, as the Islanders remained without a shot.

During the 19th minute, Texas sophomore midfielder Julia Dyche took the Horns third corner of the match. Her cross to the left post nearly found Lachappelle's head for a shot. The ball eventually landed among a group of players that included Lachappelle and Campbell, with the latter firing a shot from six yards that was blocked by the Texas A&M-CC defense and cleared. Approximately a minute later, another Texas corner resulted in a beautiful header from Meyer that was saved by Islander goalkeeper Megan Delaney.

The Islanders earned their first corner kick of the match during the 25th minute, but a cross to the middle of the 18 was cleared out by UT's defense.

Right back the other way, junior forward Kelsey Shimmick worked the ball to her left, eluding a defender and fired a left-footed shot on frame that was stopped. Through the first 27 minutes of play, the Longhorns has out-shot the opposition, 7-0.

The best chance of the opening half for Texas A&M-CC came in the 28th minute as a Zoe Cole through ball up the middle found the feet of Franco. She took a touch and launched a drive towards the bottom left corner. As she so often is, Smith proved up to the task, diving fully extended to her right to save the ball wide of the post.

Texas finally got on the board at the 32:58 mark on a beautiful combination play. Gilbert took a free kick from midfield that dropped at the top of the box. Lachappelle leapt high in the air and headed it to the right side for Brook. The freshman's flick to the middle found Meyer standing about eight yards out, and the Coppell, Texas, product finished her first goal of the season into the lower left corner.

The Longhorns dominated the stats in the opening 45 minutes, out-shooting the Islanders by a 10-2 total while managing a 6-2 lead in corners.

Just 2:10 into the second half, Texas got on the board again to nab a 2-0 advantage. Shimmick crossed a ball from the right wing to the far post. Brook had the ball land at her feet and fired a quick shot that was saved. The ricochet off the keeper bounced right to Hart out on the right wing, and the Haltom City, Texas, native made her finish look routine from a tough angle.

Jaynes started another goal-scoring play in the 60th minute as she came racing up the left wing and crossed a ball in front of the Islander defense. Waiting to blast it home was Brook, who finished into the left side of the netting from 13 yards out to make it 3-0.

At 66:04 Hart made a strong run past a defender into the box chasing a loose ball and was tripped up. The referee pointed to the spot, and Gilbert stepped up to bury a penalty kick for a four-score advantage.

A little over five minutes later, Hart fed a ball from the middle of the pitch out to Brook on the left wing. The rookie forward drove an amazing shot on net from 30 yards out that just nicked into the upper right corner for a 5-0 lead.

The scoring was finalized at 6-0 in the 87th minute as Texas A&M-CC's Daniela Gonzalez headed a UT cross into her own net.

The 'Horns return to action on Sunday, Sept. 7, as they host Montana at Mike A. Myers Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. kick-off. The match will be broadcast live on Longhorn Network.
