NASHVILLE, Tenn. – No. 12 Vanderbilt (2-0) dealt No. 22 Texas (1-1) a 5-0 defeat Sunday afternoon in the second round of the annual ITA Kickoff Weekend event at Vanderbilt's Brownlee Currey Tennis Center.
The Commodores claimed the doubles point by way of victories at the third and first positions, respectively, to assume a 1-0 match lead. Vanderbilt pushed its lead to 2-0 behind a 6-4, 6-0 win from Astra Sharma over UT freshman Danielle Wagland at fifth singles.
Vanderbilt assumed a 3-0 lead when its 15th-ranked Sydney Campbell dealt UT's 84th-ranked Breaunna Addison a 6-2, 6-2 defeat at first singles. The Commodores clinched the team victory when it picked up simultaneous wins at the third and fourth singles positions.
Texas resumes its 2015 dual-match season next Saturday when it hosts Rice. First serve is set for 1 p.m. CT at the Weller Indoor Tennis Center on the grounds of The University of Texas Golf Club.
