AUSTIN, Texas – Former Texas softball standout Taylor Hoagland has earned one of 18 highly-coveted roster spots to remain a part of the prestigious USA Softball Women's National Team for the third straight year and fourth time overall (2011, 2013, 2014, 2015), according to Thursday's release by the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) and USA Softball.
During the upcoming summer, the selected athletes will compete at the World Cup of Softball X in Irvine, Calif., (July 2015) and will travel to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, (July 15-26) for the 2015 Pan American Games.
A 2013 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American selection and a four-time Big 12 Conference choice for the Longhorns, the Flower Mound, Texas, native completed her stay on the Forty Acres as the school's all-time leader in home runs (58), runs scored (221), walks (178), slugging percentage (.708) and on-base percentage (.501). This past summer she helped the Red, White & Blue to a gold medal at the General Tire World Cup of Softball IX and to a silver medal at the 2014 ISF Women's World Championship.
Hoagland received her roster slot after spending three days at the USA Softball Women's National Team Selection Camp in Irvine, Calif. In all, 33 athletes participated in the event where they were evaluated by members of the Women's National Team Selection Committee. The squad will be helmed by USF head coach Ken Eriksen with three-time Olympic gold medalist and Oregon State head coach Laura Berg, LSU assistant coach Howard Dobson and UNLV head coach Lisa Dodd serving as assistants.
Texas has now had at least one current or former Longhorn on the USA National Team in 19 of the last 20 years.
