Head Coach Ryan Murphy
On the Longhorn's strong finish: I was pleased with our result today. A couple great rounds, Julia Beck with 67 on the final day. With the locations that we had out there today, that was a big round of golf, and the best round of golf I've been a part of in women's golf. Sophia Schubert's 70 today was great with the hole locations. We slipped back into third place, so I'm happy with that.
On playing well on Texas's home course: It's good; it's always nice to play well in front of the home crowd. People think a lot of times that it's easier to play your home course. You know the golf course, but there is added pressure to perform well so it's a double-edged sword. We got beat by a couple great teams, Texas Tech is a great team and Kent State picked up their third win on the season. They're a top five team in the country right now, and it was going to be hard to beat either one of those teams. We're just going to keep working hard through the year, and hopefully by the end of the year we will be ready to beat those two teams.
On how he plans to build on this heading into Las Vegas: I think individually each player did some good things. Obviously, Julia Beck can take from today's 67. Sophia is really close to playing great; her 70 today could have easily been 67 or 68. I think individually every player did some good stuff, and then they just simply have to identify what they have to work on the next three days. So a lot of positives this week.
Junior Julia Beck
On her third and final round: It started off pretty solid. One bogey, six birdies total. I was just hitting it well, trusted it, and hit some really good cuts. It was all coming together.
On the advantage of playing on her home course: Yes, oh my gosh. I just felt like I have a lot more confidence and better course management. I know where I need to hit it, where I play best from, and that's it.
On moving forward to Las Vegas: Well, obviously it felt pretty good to end with [this result] going into Las Vegas. So now I just know I need to stay in the moment and have patience and it will work out.
Sophomore Sophia Schubert
On being pleased with today's round: I was happy with the result. I was playing pretty well, hitting close shots, wasn't making as many putts as I wanted to, but it was pretty good.
On leaving something on the course: I did, I did. On the front nine I left a bunch out there. My last two holes, I had two short birdie putts and I missed them both.
On moving forward to Las Vegas: Well, it gives me confidence. I'm just going to keep working hard until then, and I know my game is where it needs to be right now.
On the whole team going forward: We played great. I mean, we did really well as a team. I know Julia played really solid today. It's really given us a big confidence boost.
