Pair of Longhorns inducted into Azle ISD Athletic Hall of Fame

Former Longhorns are brothers who both played on National Championship teams
AZLE, Texas – Two former Texas Longhorns, brothers Dan and Stan Mauldin, were inducted into the Azle ISD Athletic Hall of Fame on October 24.
Dan Mauldin was a two-year letterman at defensive end for UT in 1963 and 1964. He was a member of the 1963 Texas team that beat Navy, 28-6, in the 1964 Cotton Bowl to secure the Longhorns' first National Championship.
Dan graduated from Azle high in 1961 and was a member of the Hornets District Champions in 1960. He also was First-Team All-District on offense and defense that year.
Dan holds three mathematics degrees from UT, including a Ph.D he earned in 1969. He has been a mathematics professor at the University of Florida and the University of North Texas, and also has been a consultant to the Los Alamos National Laboratory and the U.S. Navy. He currently is a consultant for the Institute for Defense Analysis.
Stan Mauldin walked on as a linebacker at Texas in 1967 and earned a full scholarship in 1968. He lettered from 1969-1971, winning two National Championships (1969-70) and was named a team captain in 1971.
Stan was a member of the Class of 1967 at Azle High School, where he played football and ran track. In 1966, Stan was a tri-captain on the Hornet football team as a fullback and linebacker. He earned Honorable Mention All-District honors in 1965 and 1966, and was also named Honorable Mention All-State in 1966.
Stan earned a Bachelor of Science degree from UT in 1971 and went into coaching in 1972 as a graduate assistant at Alabama. He has been head coach and athletic director at Elgin, Bellville, Alvin and Austin High School. From 2004-2014 he served as Assistant Principal and Principal in the Georgetown ISD. He currently is an assistant football coach at Hyde Park High School in Austin.
The brothers are sons of Longhorn Hall of Honor member, Stanley Mauldin, who lettered as a defensive lineman at Texas from 1940-1942. He was named All-SWC in 1942 and was a member of the "Immortal 13' that upset Rose Bowl-bound Texas A&M, 7-0, in 1940.
