Former safety Earl Thomas becomes the sixth Longhorn to be chosen to five Pro Bowls.
Former Longhorns safety Earl Thomas of the Seattle Seahawks has been selected to the Pro Bowl for the fifth time in six seasons, as he was named to the 2016 Pro Bowl roster, which was announced on Tuesday.
Thomas was unable to play in either of the past two Pro Bowls due the Seahawks participation in the Super Bowl, however he becomes the sixth Longhorn with five selections. He joins Earl Campbell, Casey Hampton, Bobby Layne, Bud McFadin and Tommy Nobis in that group.
The selection of Thomas also gives Texas a Pro Bowl player in each of the last 15 seasons, which is the longest consecutive streak in school history. Since 1952 there have only been 11 years in which a former Longhorn was not selected to the Pro Bowl. In all, Texas has had 41 different players representing 23 teams who have made a total of 102 appearances.
This season, Thomas has started all 14 games for Seattle and pulled in a team-high four interceptions to go with 62 tackles, eight passes defended and one forced fumble.
The 2016 Pro Bowl takes place on Jan. 31 in Honolulu, one week before Super Bowl 50. It will again be a non-conferenced format with captains Michael Irvin and Jerry Rice drafting teams on Jan. 27.
