Freshman guard Brooke McCarty drains five 3-pointers for a season-high 21 points.
STILLWATER, Okla. -- Freshman guard Brooke McCarty scored a season-high 21 points and junior center Imani McGee-Stafford notched her 21st career double-double, but 23 turnovers plagued the Texas Women's Basketball team in a six-point loss at Oklahoma State on Wednesday night at Gallagher-Iba Arena, 66-60.
McCarty paced Texas (15-9, 4-8 Big 12) with game-high 21 points on 5-of-9 shooting from 3-point range with six rebounds and four assists in 40 minutes. Texas centers McGee-Stafford and sophomore Kelsey Lang combined for 32 of UT's 60 points on the night. McGee-Stafford registered 16 points and 12 rebounds in 29 minutes, while Lang posted 11 points and five rebounds in 36 minutes.
Junior guard Brady Sanders finished with five assists in 32 minutes, marking her seventh game this season with five or more assists.
Texas jumped out to an early 10-2 start, but Oklahoma State rallied to tie the game, 16-16, at the 9:05 mark of the first half. The teams went on to trade leads three times with five ties in the first half. McCarty trimmed OSU's halftime lead to four points, 34-30, with a near-half court 3-pointer at the buzzer before heading into the locker room.
The Cowgirls would maintain their lead for entire second half, but never led by more than seven points. The Longhorns trailed by just two points with 13 seconds remaining after a jumper from McGee-Stafford, but Oklahoma State converted on 4-of-4 free throws down the stretch to seal the game.
Texas held Oklahoma State to a 42.9 percent shooting percentage and out-rebounded the Cowgirls 36-to-34.
Liz Donahoe led Oklahoma State (15-8, 5-7) with 20 points and seven rebounds in 34 minutes.
Texas faces Kansas on Saturday (7 p.m. Central, ESPN3) in Lawrence, Kansas.
