Turner’s career night leads Men’s Basketball past Texas Tech, 56-41

Turner records his third double-double of the season as Longhorns win their third straight game.
AUSTIN, Texas – Freshman Myles Turner recorded his third double-double of the season after scoring a game-high 25 points and grabbing a career-high 12 rebounds to lead Texas past Texas Tech, 56-41, Saturday night at the Erwin Center.
Turner shot 10-of-13 from the field and only missed one attempt from 2-point range. His last double-digit rebounding game (11) came in Lubbock against the Red Raiders (12-14, 2-11 Big 12) on Jan. 3. The freshman forward scored 16 of his 25 points in the second half and also recorded three blocks in 30 minutes of action.
Texas (17-8, 6-6 Big 12), who improved to a perfect 17-0 at home against the Red Raiders during the Barnes era, committed a season-low seven turnovers. The Longhorns held the Red Raiders to 33.3 percent (16-of-48) shooting on the evening.
The Longhorns scored 24 of their 56 points in the paint and outscored Texas Tech 21-4 in bench points.
After a back-and-forth opening start that saw two ties and five lead changes, Texas closed out the last 10 minutes of the first half by outscoring the Red Raiders, 22-7. UT used an 11-0 run in the final 2:17, highlighted by two 3-pointers from Javan Felix and one just before the horn from Jonathan Holmes, to build a 29-19 advantage at the break.
In the first half, Turner led the Longhorns with nine points (4-of-5 shooting) and seven rebounds.
Texas Tech closed to within six points (47-41) with 5:16 remaining, but the Longhorns scored the final nine points of the contest to seal the victory.
Robert Turner led the Red Raiders with 10 points in 37 minutes.
Texas returns to action when it travels to face No. 17/17 Oklahoma on Tuesday, Feb. 17. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT at the Noble Center, and the contest will be televised nationally on ESPN2.
