Women’s Golf bests Hawaii in Texas-Hawaii Classic, 5-1

Texas defeats Hawaii in a match play format at Kapalua Golf Club.
KAPALUA, Hawaii – Texas Women's Golf defeated Hawaii, 5-1 in the Texas-Hawaii Classic at Kapalua Golf Club on Saturday.
Senior Bertine Strauss defeated Isabella Leung, 4-and-2, while junior Natalie Karcher defeated Brianna Becker, 4-and-3.
Junior Tezira Abe and sophomores Julia Beck and Anne Hakula all defeated their respective opponents, 3-and-2, while sophomore Lara Weinstein fell 3-and-2.
The Longhorns will resume their trip in Hawaii with the Anuenue Spring Break Classic from March 23 to March 25, also played at Kapalua Golf Club.

On the day: I was very pleased with today's outcome. Match play is a totally different game than stroke play. Luckily for us, most of our team has some great match play experience in their young careers. All in all, it was a terrific team effort today and a great day for the Longhorns!
On individual play: Individually, I was very happy with Tezira and Anne.....both came back from early deficits to win their matches. Both fought very hard all the way through. Natalie and Julia got off to quick starts in their matches and simply played very solid golf once again. Bertine played some great golf to hang on and win her match today. I was particularly happy with Bertine's back 9.
