McBroom places eighth in 400m freestyle at FINA World Championships

UT sophomore Joseph Schooling advances to Monday’s 50m butterfly final.
KAZAN, Russia – Texas-Ex Michael McBroom placed eighth in the 400-meter freestyle final Sunday on the opening day of swimming at the 2015 FINA World Championships.
Representing the United States, McBroom (The Woodlands, Texas) placed eighth overall in the 400m freestyle final at 3 minutes, 51.94 seconds. China's Sun Yang won gold in 3:42.58 while England's James Guy won silver at 3:43.75.
Canada's Ryan Cochrane claimed bronze in 3:44.59. The other American in the final, Connor Jaeger, placed fourth in 3:44.81.
Representing Singapore, UT sophomore Joseph Schooling qualified seventh for Monday's 50m butterfly final in a national record time of 23.27 seconds. The three-time NCAA champion won nine gold medals for Singapore at the Southeast Asian Games in June.
