No. 8 Ohio State defeats No. 26 Men's Tennis, 4-0

COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 8 Ohio State (7-0) won two of three doubles matches to clinch the doubles point and registered three doubles wins to close out a 4-0 victory over No. 26 Texas (4-4) Sunday afternoon at the Buckeyes' Varsity Tennis Center.
Ohio State secured the doubles point by way of its victories at the first and second doubles positions, but Texas freshmen Rodrigo Banzer and Harrison Scott produced their first win together at third doubles, which came against highly-ranked opponents. The duo knocked off Ohio State's 24th-ranked tandem of Mikael Torpegaard and Herkko Pollanen, 6-4.
The Buckeyes assumed a 2-0 lead behind Ralf Steinbach's 6-3, 6-3 win over UT's Michael Riechmann at fifth singles. UT junior George Goldhoff forced a second-set tiebreaker against the seventh-ranked Torpegaard at first singles, but Torpegaard took the tiebreaker and the match, 6-4, 7-6 (1) to push the OSU lead to 3-0.
UT sophomore Adrian Ortiz took the first set off of OSU's 25th-ranked Pollanen at fourth singles, 6-1, but Pollanen claimed the following two sets, 6-4, 6-3 to preserve the 4-0 team win for Ohio State.
UT's Scott and Banzer held opportunities for top-20 singles wins on their courts, but their matches were suspended once the Buckeyes logged the clinching point.
Scott led Ohio State's 10th-ranked Hugo Di Feo 2-1 in the third set at second singles, and Banzer was up a service break on the Buckeyes' 19th-ranked Chris Diaz at third singles when their matches were called.
Texas returns home next weekend to host California (Feb. 6) and Stanford (Feb. 7) at UT's Weller Indoor Tennis Center on the grounds of The University of Texas Golf Club.
