STILLWATER, Okla. – Freshman Jordan Hosey had a career-high 12 points, and senior Imani Boyette posted her fourth-consecutive double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds to lead No. 4/4 Texas past Oklahoma State, 78-48, inside Gallagher-Iba Arena in front of 3,290 fans.
With the win, Texas (15-0, 4-0 Big 12 Conference) remains undefeated and off to its best start since the 1985-86 national championship squad. The Horns have never trailed in conference play this year and have outscored their conference opponents by double digits in each contest. This is the first time the Longhorns have won on the road in Stillwater since 2009.
"This is by far the best performance we've had from start to finish," said Texas head coach Karen Aston. "This is a team that is a tough match-up for us because they can physically match-up with us in the paint. I really thought we had a really great team game. There were so many contributions from people, specifically in the first half when we got the big lead. Everybody came in and did their job, and it was fun to watch."
Hosey's season-high night was the result of a perfect 4-for-4 shooting percentage from the field and a 4-of-4 mark from the free-throw line. Boyette's double-double was her eighth on the season, and she has posted one in each of the Big 12 Conference games so far.
Senior Brady Sanders scored a season-high seven points, and senior Celina Rodrigo posted a game-high five assists on the game.
As a team, the Horns shot 52.9 percent (27-51) from the field and 50 percent (6-12) from behind the arc, while holding the Cowgirls to a 27.8 shooting percentage (15-for-54) on the night. Texas outrebounded Oklahoma State, 38-33.
Oklahoma State (12-3, 2-2 Big 12 Conference) was led by senior Brittney Martin, who totaled a game-high 17 points.
The Longhorns would waste no time getting off to a fast start, taking a 9-2 advantage after a three-point play from junior Brianna Taylor. After forcing a Cowgirl shot clock violation, senior Empress Davenport and Boyette would add baskets to make it 13-2 and force an Oklahoma State timeout at the 4:21 mark. The Horns would continue to dominate, draining seven of their last eight FG attempts, and freshman Lashann Higgs would nail a midrange jumper with six seconds left to finish the quarter, 25-7.
Texas would get off to a 9-0 spurt in the second fueled by triples from sophomore Ariel Atkins and Sanders to take the 33-7 lead at 6:32 mark of the second quarter. From there, Texas would only allow the Cowgirls six points, heading into the half with a 43-13 lead.
Boyette would make two layups, and Taylor would add one of her own to increase the margin to 33 points (49-16) with 7:23 remaining in the third. The Cowgirls would try to cut into the mounting deficit with an 8-2 run, making the score 51-21 Horns at the media timeout. The Horns would regain control, and another Sanders three-pointer coupled with a jumper from sophomore Tasia Foman would end the third, 63-26.
The Longhorns would take a 40-point lead (67-27), their largest of the night, after Boyette sunk one from the line with 7:37 remaining in regulation. Oklahoma State would outscore Texas, 22-15, in the last quarter, but the Horns took the game, 78-48.
Texas will remain on the road as it plays Kansas in Lawrence, Kan., on Wednesday, Jan. 13. Tip is set for 7 p.m., and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN3.
