Longhorns in the MLB Postseason

At the outset of the playoffs, there are currently three Longhorns on MLB teams headed to the postseason.
Texas Baseball has produced 106 Major League Baseball players in its storied history, eight of whom played in the big leagues during the 2016 season. There are five former Longhorns on major league teams (including two coaches) who are headed to the postseason this year.
OF Drew Stubbs, Baltimore Orioles
Years at Texas: 2004-06
Drew Stubbs, three-time All-American and two-time academic All-American while at UT, joined the Orioles on August 31 off waivers from the Texas Rangers. He's played in 20 games with the O's and is on Baltimore's 25-man roster for the AL Wild Card Game against the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night.
1B Brandon Belt, San Francisco Giants
Years at Texas: 2008-09
Brandon Belt, who was named to his first All-Star Game this season with the Giants, has appeared in 156 games with San Francisco this season, posting a .275/.394/.474 line. He led the Giants in doubles (41), homers (17) and finished second in RBI (82). The Giants will face the New York Mets in the NL Wild Card Game on Wednesday night.
LHP J.P. Howell, Los Angeles Dodgers
Years at Texas: 2004
J.P. Howell helped lead the Longhorns to the College World Series championship series in 2004 before he was selected in the first round of the 2004 MLB Draft by the Kansas City Royals. While at Texas, he was a first team All-American and the Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Year. The 11-year MLB veteran appeared in 64 games for the Dodgers this season. Los Angeles will take on the Washington Nationals in the NLDS beginning Friday.
Spike Owen, Texas Rangers
Years at Texas: 1980-82
Longhorn legend Spike Owen, who appeared in the College World Series in two of his three seasons at UT, was Southwest Conference Player of the Year in 1981 and a College All-American in his 1982 season. Owen, who played in 13 seasons in the big leagues, is currently the third base coach for the Rangers, who will face off against the winner of the AL Wild Card Game in the ALDS beginning Thursday.
Scott Coolbaugh, Baltimore Orioles
Years at Texas: 1986-87
Scott Coolbaugh currently serves as the hitting coach for the Baltimore Orioles. He was drafted out of UT in the third round of the 1987 MLB Draft and went on to play in parts of four seasons in the big leagues. Coolbaugh's Orioles face off against the Blue Jays on Tuesday night in the AL Wild Card Game.
