Rice edges Women's Tennis, 4-3

Breaunna Addison, Neda Koprcina and Daniella Roldan post singles wins for the Longhorns.
HOUSTON – No. 38 Texas (3-2) garnered singles wins from All-America senior Breaunna Addison, junior Neda Koprcina and freshman Daniella Roldan, but No. 31 Rice (4-1) held on for a 4-3 win over the Longhorns Saturday afternoon at the Owls' George R. Brown Tennis Center.
Rice won two of three doubles contests to earn the doubles point and a 1-0 match lead, and it extended its lead to 2-0 behind a win at fifth singles.
Texas got on the board at third singles, as Koprcina posted a 7-6 (2), 6-3 win over Rice's Emily Smith. The Longhorns evened the match at fourth singles where Roldan fought off Rice's Alison Ho in a second-set tiebreaker and emerged with a 6-3, 7-6 (4) win.
UT took a 3-2 lead when Addison improved to 21-2 on the season with her 6-3, 6-2 victory over the Owls' 84th-ranked Lindsey Hodge at first singles. Rice's Katherine Ip held off UT sophomore Dani Wagland in a pair of tiebreak sets and evened the match with her 7-6 (5), 7-6 (6) win at second singles.
UT senior Lana Groenvynck took the first set off of Rice's Solomiya Zinko at sixth singles, 6-4, but Zinko forced a third set with a 6-0 second-set win. Zinko picked up an early service break and assumed a 4-1 third-set lead. Groenvynck returned the favor and later broke Zinko's serve.
Groenvynck saved multiple match points, but Zinko ultimately finished off a 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 win to put away the 4-3 win for Rice.
Texas hits the road again next weekend (Feb. 21) and takes on Duke at its home courts in Durham, North Carolina.
