Women's Tennis knocks off Princeton, 4-2

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Texas (4-4) claimed the doubles point and finished off three singles wins to put away a 4-2 win over Princeton Saturday at the Blue-Gray Tennis Classic.
"Today was likely not our best tennis, but the group definitely banded together and competed ferociously," said first-year UT head coach Howard Joffe. "Lana Groenvynck and Katie Poluta squeaked out the doubles point for us, and the ladies showed a lot of poise when the match was on the line in singles. I know our ladies are looking forward to getting back to Austin and playing some home matches."
Texas opened the match by winning two of three matches to claim the doubles point. UT All-America senior Breaunna Addison joined sophomore Dani Wagland to defeat Princeton's Amanda Muliawan and Nicole Kalhorn by a 6-2 count at first doubles.
UT senior Lana Groenvynck and freshman Katie Poluta sealed the doubles point by outlasting the Tigers' Dorothy Tang and Amber Park, 7-6 at third doubles.
Princeton scored wins at the fourth and sixth singles positions, but Texas finished off the Tigers with victories at the second, third and fifth singles positions. Junior Neda Koprcina defeated Princeton's Katrine Steffensen by a 7-6, 6-1 count at second singles, and Wagland finished off the Tigers' Nicole Kalhorn, 6-4, 7-5.
Poluta added a 6-2, 6-1 win over Princeton's Emiy Hahn at fifth singles.
Texas returns home next weekend and hosts Michigan on March 5 at the Whitaker Tennis Courts.
