OKLAHOMA CITY - The No. 6/7 University of Texas women's basketball team meets No. 4/4 Baylor on Monday in the Big 12 Conference Tournament Championship Game. Tip-off in Chesapeake Energy Arena is slated for 8 p.m. CT and will be televised on FS1.
The Longhorns (28-3) are competing in the Big 12 Conference Tournament Championship Game for the fifth time in program history. Texas is 1-3 in the Big 12 Tournament title tilt. The only Big 12 Tournament crown in program history came in 2002-03 with a Texas team that later advanced to the NCAA Final Four.
Texas is 6-3 this season against opponents ranked in the Associated Press top-25, including a 2-2 mark against top-10 foes.
"To be able to beat Baylor, you have to compete for 40 minutes because they're going to," Texas head coach Karen Aston said. "To be able to play with them also you have to be able to put the ball in the hole because they're obviously capable of doing that. That's a little easier said than done because I think their defense is really, really good."
Senior guard Celina Rodrigo has led the Longhorns at the Big 12 Tournament, averaging 12.5 points per game, 3.0 rebounds per game, 4.5 assists per game, is shooting 61 percent from the field and has made six three-pointers over the past two games.
Texas and Baylor (32-1) meet for the 92nd time in the history of the two programs. The Longhorns lead the all-time series between the two teams 57-34. Baylor has won 13 consecutive meetings against Texas.
