No. 17 Men's Tennis falls to Baylor, 4-2

Longhorns rally falls just short in Waco.
WACO, Texas – No. 17 Texas (15-7, 1-1 Big 12) registered singles wins from senior Michael Riechmann and sophomore John Mee, but Baylor (12-9, 1-1 Big 12) won the doubles point and posted three singles wins in a 4-2 victory over the Longhorns Tuesday evening at BU's Hurd Tennis Center.
In the match's doubles session, UT's 86th-ranked tandem of George Goldhoff and Julian Zlobinsky made short work of Baylor's Felipe Rios and Jimmy Bendeck at second doubles and posted a 6-2 win. The Bears, however, won the other two positions to earn the doubles point and a 1-0 lead.
Baylor pushed its lead to 2-0 behind Rios' 6-3, 6-4 win over UT's Adrian Ortiz at third singles, but Texas took the next two decisions to even the match. Riechmann held off Baylor's Tommy Podvinski 7-6, 6-3 at fifth singles to cut the Bears' lead to 2-1. The Longhorns evened the tally at two behind Mee's 7-6, 6-1 win over Tyler Stayer at sixth singles.
Texas had dropped the first sets at Nos. 1, 2 and 4 singles, but the Longhorns stayed in the match by forcing third sets at each of those positions. Baylor's Julian Lenz assumed a 4-1 third-set lead over UT's George Goldhoff at first singles before Goldhoff broke Lenz once and held serve twice to even the set at four.
Lenz, however, held serve for a 5-4 lead and broke Goldhoff in the ensuing service game to close out the match and give Baylor a 3-2 lead. UT's Scott led Baylor's 86th-ranked Tchoutakian 2-1 in the third set at second singles before Tchoutakian took the final five games to close out a 6-2 third-set win and give Baylor the 4-2 win.
UT's Rodrigo Banzer held a 3-2 third-set lead in his match at fourth singles, but the match was suspended upon Baylor's clinching win at second singles.
Texas resumes conference play this weekend and welcomes No. 12 Oklahoma State on Friday (6 p.m.) and No. 9 Oklahoma on Sunday (1 p.m.). All remaining home matches will be contested at Polo Tennis Club.
