All-America OL J.P. Urquidez and three-time all-district honoree DB Donovan Duvernay have signed financial aid agreements with the Longhorns.
University of Texas Football has added high school All-America OL J.P. Urquidez (Copperas Cove, Texas) and three-time all-district honoree DB Donovan Duvernay (Sachse, Texas) to its 2016 signing class, head coach Charlie Strong announced Monday. Both have signed financial aid agreements and are expected to enroll in the University's second summer session in July.
A two-time all-state selection in each of Texas and Maryland, and three-time all-district honoree, Urquidez (yer-KEE-dez) attended Copperas Cove High School as a freshman, sophomore and senior, while attending DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Md., as a junior.
He was selected to the 2016 Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl and was named to the All-USA Texas Second Team by USA Today in 2015. Additionally, the Killeen Daily Herald named him All-Area Co-Offensive Lineman of the Year, along with current Texas OL Zach Shackelford, who played at Belton. As a junior, he was chosen first-team Private School All-State in Maryland at DeMatha Catholic.
Urquidez was a consensus top 30 recruit in the state of Texas and ranked in the Top 175 nationally by Rivals and ESPN.
Duvernay (DOO-ver-nay) was a two-way player in high school who received all-district accolades on both sides of the ball during his time at Sachse (SACK-see). As a senior, his honors came on offense, as he recorded 38 receptions for 520 yards (13.7 ypr) and eight touchdowns, while registering 25 rushes for 192 yards and one touchdown.
As a junior, Duvernay was tabbed all-district as an athlete, registering two kickoff return touchdowns, in addition to 20 receptions for 452 yards and five touchdowns on offense, and 42 tackles, six pass breakups and two interceptions on defense. He was honored on defense as a sophomore, tallying 62 tackles, seven pass breakups and three interceptions as a defensive back.
A consensus top 100 recruit in the state of Texas, Duvernay also played as an outfielder in baseball for Sachse and is the twin brother of fellow UT football signee Devin Duvernay.
