Red Bull athlete Terry Adams to perform with Texas Basketball on Jan. 10-11.
Terry Adams relied on the bicycle to overcome childhood challenges like asthma and dyslexia. He discovered a talent for artistic cycling when he was 12 and turned that competitive passion into drive and ambition.
"If you want something bad enough, you can do whatever you want in this world," Adams says. "You just need to believe."
The 32-year-old Adams is a sponsored Red Bull athlete who competes and performs across the world, specializing in BMX Flatland, which is freestyle riding on smooth, flat surfaces that do not include ramps, jumps or rails. It has been described as breakdancing on wheels.
Adams began competing in flatland contests at 16, and since then has amassed an impressive number of awards and accolades, including an X Games gold medal and two NORA Cup wins. These days, in between competing and continuing to pioneer his discipline, Adams is now widely regarded as the ambassador for flatland.
He'll bring his performance and talents to the Frank Erwin Center. Adams is the featured halftime performer when women's basketball hosts Oklahoma State on Tuesday, Jan. 10 and for the men's basketball contest against TCU on Wednesday, Jan. 11. Both games tip at 7 p.m., and tickets are available at TexasSports.com/tickets.
Growing up in Hammond, Louisiana, a small town about an hour outside of New Orleans, Adams developed his signature bike trick, the "Katrina," while riding his bike during the hurricane's storm.
"One of the more defining moments was learning that trick, the 'Katrina,' because it opened up so many doors – not just in riding, but in life to know that if I can do this – man I can do anything," Adams says.
