Banzer, Telles advance at ITA All-American Championships

Texas juniors Rodrigo Banzer and Leonardo Telles need two more qualifying-round wins to advance to the main singles draw.
TULSA, Okla. – Texas juniors Rodrigo Banzer and Leonardo Telles posted singles wins and closed within two wins of qualifying for the main singles draw Monday at the ITA All-American Championships.
Banzer notched a 6-2, 6-4 win over South Florida's Grayson Goldin to set up a second-round qualifying match against Aleks Kovacevic of Illinois. Telles outlasted Tulane's Luis Erlenbusch, 6-7, 7-5, 7-6 (9) and will meet Oklahoma State's Mathieu Scaglia in the second round.
Both Banzer and Telles need two more wins in the qualifying draw on Tuesday to advance to the main singles draw, where they would join Texas junior Harrison Scott and UT sophomore Yuya Ito.
Also on Monday, Texas collected two wins apiece from a couple of doubles pairs in the qualifying draw. Juniors Colin Markes and Adrian Ortiz won matches over UAB and Indiana, while junior Harrison Scott and sophomore Yuya Ito teamed up to defeat Yale and Ole Miss. Both Longhorns doubles pairs need one more win on Tuesday to reach the main doubles draw.
