Texas sophomore Yuya Ito and UT junior Harrison Scott will play in the main single and doubles draws beginning Thursday.
TULSA, Okla. – Texas sophomore Yuya Ito and UT junior Harrison Scott won their final qualifying-round match to advance to the main doubles draw late Tuesday evening at the ITA All-American Championships.
The final day of main draw qualifying called for the remaining singles players to win two matches and the remaining doubles teams to claim one match to advance to their respective main draws.
Inclement weather forced most of Tuesday's matches to be relocated indoors at The University of Tulsa, resulting in delayed start times across the board. Ito and Scott took on Ohio State's John McNally and J.J. Wolf in their final qualifying match and claimed the first set, 7-5.
The Buckeyes rallied and took the second set, 6-1 to force a 10-point match tiebreak for the third set. Ito and Scott took control early in the tiebreak and raced out to a 9-4 lead. Ohio State saved a pair of match points, but Ito and Scott converted the third match point to close out a 7-5, 1-6, 1-0 (10-6) victory.
Both Longhorns will play in both the singles and doubles main draws beginning Thursday. Juniors Leonardo Telles and Rodrigo Banzer will join them in doubles after qualifying over the summer.
UT juniors Colin Markes and Adrian Ortiz stood one win away from the main doubles draw, but the duo suffered a 3-6, 7-6 (5), 1-0 (10-6) loss to Virginia Tech's Mitch Harper and Henrik Korsgaard.
Telles downed Oklahoma State's Mathieu Scaglia 7-6 (5), 6-4 to pull within one win of reaching the main singles draw. The Brazilian took on Oklahoma's Ferran Calvo in the final qualifying match, and he went the distance before falling 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (6).
Banzer also entered the final day of qualifying needing two wins to reach the main draw. His bid fell short, however, when he fell in three sets to Illinois' 80th-ranked Aleks Kovacevic.
