AUSTIN, Texas – No. 2 Texas posted a top national time and one of the fastest relay swims in program history to kick off night one Wednesday at the Texas Invitational.
The Longhorns quartet of sophomore Claire Adams, senior Rebecca Millard and juniors Remedy Rule and Joanna Evans claimed the 800-yard freestyle relay in 6 minutes, 58.75 seconds, good for the top time in the nation this season and an automatic-qualifying cut for the NCAA Championships. The relay goes down as the fifth-fastest 800 free relay in school history.
Adams led off in 1:43.93 while Millard split 1:44.56 on the second leg. Rule picked up the relay's third leg in 1:45.97 before Evans anchored in 1:44.29. UT's "B" relay featuring junior Quinn Carrozza, freshman Evie Pfeifer, sophomore Lauren Case and freshman Ella Tierney also posted an "A" qualifying cut with their fourth-place mark of 7:03.36. Carrozza led off the relay with a 200 freestyle personal best of 1:44.11.
Day two of the Texas Invitational begins Thursday with the preliminary round at 10 a.m. CT. Finals are set for 6 p.m.
