Longhorns close out the Mavericks in final non-conference match.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 8 Texas (17-4) swept the two doubles decisions and the six singles matches in a 7-0 win over UT Arlington (12-7) Tuesday evening at Caswell Tennis Center.
The Longhorns asserted themselves early on in doubles play and picked up a couple of wins for a 1-0 lead. The Mavericks' tandem of Jhonathan Gonzalez and Mauricio Del Rio brought a No. 58 national ranking to Austin, but the duo leaves with a 6-1 loss courtesy of UT's George Goldhoff and Leonardo Telles at first doubles.
Texas closed out the doubles session at the second slot where freshman Yuya Ito and sophomore Colin Markes dealt Mario Muniesa and Pablo Colvee at 6-3 defeat. The remaining match at third doubles was called off.
Texas sophomore Harrison Scott gave the Horns a 2-0 lead by way of his 6-0, 6-4 win over the Mavericks' Muniesa at second singles. Sixteenth-ranked freshman Christian Sigsgaard staked the Horns to a 3-0 cushion with his 6-4, 6-3 win over Gonzalez at first singles.
Ito locked up the team win for Texas with his 6-2, 6-4 win over Guanarteme Nuez at third singles. Sophomore Rodrigo Banzer pushed the Longhorns' lead to 5-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Colvee at sixth singles, and Goldhoff added a 6-4, 6-4 win over Daniel Armengol at fourth singles.

Texas takes the rest of the week off from dual matches and prepares for its conference opener on March 31 at Oklahoma.
POST-MATCH COMMENTS
Texas associate head coach Bruce Berque
On what the emphasis was for today's match after Texas faced some tough opponents
I'd like to think that we executed better and I think that was at least part of it because we have been trying to make a point of emphasis on the doubles, especially on the focus we have in practice. Just to focus on those skills in practice, so I do think it was a big improvement. And, the teams that we've played recently were really good, like Columbia and Ohio State, so I have to give some of the credit to them. We think we did a better job with our doubles today but it's going to have to get even better still.
