Men’s Tennis’ Eriksson reaches ITA Texas Regionals final

Although the title match was not played, as a finalist, sophomore Sebastian Eriksson qualified for the NCAA Singles Championships.
College Station, Texas – Texas Men's Tennis sophomore 4 seed No. 54 Sebastian Eriksson reached the singles final at the ITA Texas Regional Championships in College Station on Tuesday.
Although the title match was not played, as a finalist, Eriksson qualified for the upcoming NCAA Singles Championships that will be played November 18-23 in Lake Nona, Fla.
Eriksson defeated the top seed #34 Alexander Frusina of Texas A&M, 7-5, 7-5, in the semifinals and had been slated to play 2 seed Trevor Svajda of SMU a short time later before it would be decided the final would not be played.
Against Frusina, the first set stayed on serve almost all the way through until Eriksson secured the only break on a deuce point for his first lead of 6-5. He then served out the set on another deuce point. There had been four total deuce points in the frame, including earlier ones for a 4-3 lead for Frusina and for 4-4.
The second set started with two more deuce-point holds, and after Eriksson held on another for 4-4, he collected the first break for a 5-4 lead. He led 40-15 in the following game in an attempt to serve out the match, but Frusina rallied for his only break of the match to keep it alive. Eriksson responded with another break for a 6-5 lead, and this time, Eriksson did serve it out for the win.
