No. 5 Rowing advances all five boats to finals at Clemson Invitational

Longhorns set to chase the team title Sunday at the annually competitive two-day regatta.
CLEMSON, S.C. – No. 5 Texas won nine of its 10 heats and sent all five of its boats to the "A" finals Saturday on day one of the Clemson Invitational on Lake Hartwell.
The Clemson Invitational features two preliminary sessions of racing for placing into Sunday's A, B and C finals. The Invite will name a team champion for the first time, and Texas will make a run for the team trophy with placements in all five "A" finals.
Texas' varsity eight logged its second win of the day in the evening session, as the Horns emerged from the pack and recorded an open-water win at 6 minutes, 19.348 seconds. Wisconsin followed in second at 6:25.870 while UCF took third at 6:31.394.
The Longhorns' second varsity eight engaged in a tight battle with Wisconsin in their evening heat, but Texas ultimately prevailed. The Badgers led halfway through before Texas chipped away at the deficit and pulled away to victory in 6:27.905. Wisconsin took second at 6:30.199 while Duke finished third at 6:38.351.
Texas' varsity four took a close second in its evening heat, as Wisconsin claimed the heat at 7:10.683. The Longhorns followed in 7:13.463 while Duke followed in a distant third at 7:26.044.
The Longhorns' second varsity four led from the outset and cruised to an open-water win in the evening session at 7:14.743. Louisville followed in second at 7:25.651 while Cornell took third at 7:32.157.
The Texas third varsity eight scored its second win of the day in impressive fashion and put away the victory in 6:34.114. Syracuse followed in second at 6:39.244 while Virginia rounded out the top-three in 6:40.028.
Texas put together an impressive morning session in which it was only team among the 21 participating schools to sweep its five sessions. The Longhorns opened the morning session with a convincing win from their varsity eight, which covered the 2,000-meter (2km) course in 6 minutes, 17.474 seconds, well ahead of second-place Indiana at 6:24.072. Syracuse rounded out the top-three in the seven-boat heat at 6:28.049.
Texas' second varsity eight boat followed suit and logged an open-water win in 6:24.199, well ahead of second-place Syracuse (6:30.189) and third-place Indiana (6:30.701). The varsity four, the last of the NCAA Championship-level boats, won its morning heat with plenty of room to spare at 7:10.269. Columbia took second at 7:21.118 while Gonzaga placed third at 7:23.082.
The Longhorns' second varsity four cruised to victory in its heat at 7:15.569 while host Clemson took second at 7:28.827. UT's novice crew completed a Texas sweep of the morning session, as it won its third varsity eight heat at 6:45.849. Wisconsin followed in second at 6:51.373.
Sunday's finals are currently set for 8:30 a.m. ET, but the threat of inclement weather could alter the schedule. Live race video will be available at ClemsonTigers.com, and race results will be available here.
