Re-live Texas' participation in the final AIAW Women's Basketball Championship event.
The Rutgers University Student Radio Station WRSU will re-air the 1982 AIAW Women's Basketball National Championship game, which featured the University of Texas and Rutgers University.
The special will air from 7-10 a.m. CT on Saturday, April 29. Fans can listen online at http://radio.rutgers.edu. The broadcast will enclude the entire game and post-game show.
The 1982 event was the final AIAW Women's Basketball National Championship.
The 1982-82 University of Texas women's basketball team posted a 35-4 overall record and put together a 32-game win streak during the course of the season, which still stands as the second-longest win streak in program history.
Freshman Annette Smith from Bay City, Texas, led the Longhorns in scoring (19.3 points per game) and rebounding (9.3 boards per game).
The Longhorns finished the season ranked No. 5 in the nation in their final year before participation in the Southwest Conference and the NCAA Tournament.
Texas fell to Rutgers 83-77 in the AIAW Championship Game. Smith had 30 points in the title tilt as one of four Longhorns in double-figure scoring. Sophomore guard Terri Mackey posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 assists.
