No. 22 Women’s Golf climbs into fifth after two rounds at NCAA Regional

The top-six teams will advance to the NCAA Championship after Wednesday’s third and final round.

LUBBOCK, Texas – No. 22 Texas Women's Golf climbed three spots into fifth place after firing a second-round 289 at the Rawls Course on Tuesday.

Junior Sophia Schubert followed her first-round 71 with a second-round 71 to sit 2-under par, in a tie for fourth, three strokes out of the lead.

Schubert began the round with a birdie on hole one's par-4 and continued on to make 17-consecutive pars. She has shot 20 of her 35 rounds at or under par this season.

Senior Haley Mills and freshman Greta Isabella Voelker shot even 72s during the second day, as Mills climbed 14 spots into a tie for 22^nd and Voelker 30 spots into a tie for 49^th.

Mills started her day with a birdie and bogey on the front nine before making another birdie on hole 11's par-4 to return to 1-under par. She made bogeys on 15 and 17, but ended the round with another birdie on 18 to finish the day even par.

Voelker made four bogeys and two birdies on the first 11 holes, but fired back with five birdies on the last seven holes to close the round at even par.

Senior Julia Beck made three birdies to five bogeys for a second-round 74 to tie for 36^th, while freshman Emilee Hoffman sits in a tie for 56^th.

As a team, Texas is 13-over par. Arizona State leads at 6-under par, while the Sun Devils' Monica Vaughn sits at the top of the leaderboard at 5-under par.

The Longhorns will play the third and final round on Wednesday, May 10, teeing off at 9 a.m. with Furman and Kent State.
