Givans 1 of 6 men to earn three first-team certificates
AUSTIN, Texas – With the conclusion of the collegiate track & field season the USTFCCCA announced its 2017 outdoor All-America teams today. The Texas Longhorns came away from the national championship meet with 27 All-America honors, 16 of them first-team.
Senior Senoj-Jay Givans lead the way for Texas with three first-team honors from the USTFCCCA for finishing seventh in the 100 meters, sixth in the 200 and running anchor on the 5th-place 4x100 relay team for the Longhorns. Givans was one of only three men to receive first-team honors in three events this year.
Chrisann Gordon and Aldrich Bailey Jr. also each earned three All-America honors from the USTFCCCA.
Gordon received a pair of first-team honors winning the NCAA title in the 400 meters and helping the Longhorns to finish fifth in the 4x400. She also ran the opening leg of the 4x100 that finished in 11th place.
Bailey ran on the men's 4x100 relay that finished fifth and he also took 15th in the 200 and 11th in the 400 to close his career with three All-American performances in his last college meet.
Ariel Jones was the only other Longhorn to register multiple first-team honors as she finished fourth in the 400 meter hurdles in her first NCAA individual final. She also ran the opening leg of the women's 4x400.
Also earning first-team honors for the Texas women were: Rushelle Burton, Haley Crouser, Teahna Daniels, Serenity Douglas and Zola Golden.
Other first-team honors for the men went to: Carlton Anumnu, Charles Anumnu and Wolf Mahler.
First-team honors went to those athletes from individual events and relay teams that finished 1st through 8th, while those who finished 9th through 16th nabbed second-team billing. Honorable mention was given to those who finished 17th through 24th.
