Johnston selected in the sixth round by the Nationals in 2017 MLB Draft

Johnston is the third Longhorn selected so far in the draft.
AUSTIN, Texas—Right-handed pitcher Kyle Johnston became the third Texas Baseball player selected in the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft when he was taken in the sixth round, 193rd overall, by the Washington Nationals on Tuesday afternoon.
Johnston, a junior from Flower Mound, made 17 appearances (12 starts) for the Longhorns this season. He went 3-2 with a pair of saves for Texas and struck out 52 in 73.1 innings. As a starter, he registered a 2.90 ERA and held opponent's to a .224 average.
In three seasons at Texas, Johnston compiled a career 3.32 ERA to go along with 157 strikeouts in 181.2 innings on the hill.
So far in 2017, three Longhorns have been selected in the draft, with right-handed pitcher Morgan Cooper taken on day one (second round, 62nd overall) and lefthander Nick Kennedy selected earlier today (fifth round, 146th overall). In last year's draft, Texas catcher Tres Barrera was also selected in the sixth round by the Nationals.
