Sterkel to be inducted into ASCA Hall of Fame

Former Texas women’s swimming and diving head coach Jill Sterkel to be inducted on Aug. 29.
AUSTIN, Texas – Former University of Texas women's swimming and diving head coach Jill Sterkel will be one of four coaches inducted into the ASCA (American Swimming Coaches Association) Hall of Fame later this month. The induction ceremony is set for Aug. 29 in Washington, D.C.
One of the most decorated swimmers in the history of Texas women's swimming and diving, Sterkel led the Longhorns women for 14 seasons (1993-2006). She paced UT to four top-five team finishes at the NCAA Championships. Under Sterkel, Texas finished in the top-10 at 13 of 14 NCAA Championship meets.
Sterkel's Longhorns won four NCAA individual titles and two NCAA relay championships. She led Texas to conference titles in 12 of her 14 seasons, which included stretches of four straight SWC titles (1993-96) and eight straight Big 12 crowns (1999-2006).
Sterkel was a two-time head coach for the U.S. women at the World University Games (2003 & 2005). She was an assistant coach for Team USA at the 2001 FINA World Championships.
Sterkel remains active in Texas Athletics as an assistant athletics director for the T-Association.
