Colin Markes wins pair of matches to move on to Saturday’s quarters in Midland.
MIDLAND, Texas – Texas junior Colin Markes registered a pair of singles wins and moved on to the quarterfinals of the main singles draw Friday at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational.
Markes started off his day against Wichita State's Eddie Stoica and pulled out a three-set win, 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (10-7). The Austin native needed only two sets to finish off UTSA's Kai Breitbach (6-3, 7-5) in the round of 16.
Texas senior John Mee defeated Utah State's Jaime Barajas in the opening round (6-1, 4-6, 1-0 [10-6]) but was eliminated by Oklahoma's Ferran Calvo in the round of 16, 6-2, 6-4.
