No. 8 Men's Tennis posts nine wins on day one at Longhorn Invitational

Longhorns notch five singles victories and four doubles wins.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 8 Texas piled up 10 singles and doubles wins as day one came to a close Friday afternoon at the Longhorn Invitational.
Senior John Mee, ranked 52nd in the latest ITA singles rankings, kicked off the new year with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Vanderbilt's Maxwell Freeman. Junior Rodrigo Banzer, ranked 98th in singles, followed suit and posted a 6-4, 6-4 win over Virginia Tech's Carlo Donato.
Junior Johnny Goodwin registered a 6-2, 6-3 win over Virginia Tech's Ryan Kros, and his classmate Adrian Ortiz held on for a 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 win over Virginia Tech's Chase Bernstine.
All-America sophomore Yuya Ito rallied from set down to post a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Vanderbilt's Panu Virtanen.
In doubles, Texas' fifth-ranked tandem of Banzer and his classmate Leonardo Telles held off Virginia Tech's Mitch Harper and Alexandre Ribeiro, 8-6. UT's 23rd-ranked duo of Ito and junior Harrison Scott dealt Vanderbilt's Daniel Valent and George Harwell an 8-6 defeat.
Sophomore Christian Sigsgaard teamed up with Ortiz to knock off Vanderbilt's 36th-ranked tandem of Lachlan McPhee and Billy Rowe, 8-5, while junior Colin Markes and the aforementioned Mee defeated Virginia Tech's Bernstine and Abraham Asaba, 8-3.
Day two of the Longhorn Invitational gets underway Saturday at 10 a.m. at Weller Tennis Center.
