DENTON, Texas— Senior guard Lashann Higgs became the 44th member of the school's 1,000-point club Monday as she scored a game-high 20 points to help the No. 11/8 Texas women's basketball team hold off North Texas, 64-54, at The Super Pit in Denton, Texas.
Texas (2-0), which led 34-21 at halftime, pushed its advantage out to 14 points (48-34) with 1:05 remaining in the third quarter. With the Longhorns ahead 50-38, North Texas (1-1) went on a 6-0 run to cut within six points (50-44) with 8:56 left in the game. The Mean Green came as close as four points, 54-50, at the 5:35 mark of the final period before back-to-back baskets by Higgs put the Longhorns up by eight, 58-50, with 3:31 left.
Two Longhorns – Jada Underwood (14 points, 10 rebounds) and Jatarie White (11 points, 11 rebounds) – recorded double-doubles in the game.
Texas out-rebounded North Texas 61-31. The 61 rebounds by the Longhorns tied for the eighth-most in a single game in program history.

KEY STATISTICS
- Texas did not make a three-pointer in the game (0-for-7). It marked the first time that had happened since January 14, 2017 when the Longhorns did not make a trey against West Virginia.
- Texas had two players (Underwood and White) record double-doubles in the game. It marked the first time two Longhorns charted double-doubles in the same game since Joyner Holmes and Kelsey Lang each had a double-double against UTRGV on December 15, 2016.
- Higgs scored a game-high 20 points and became the 44th player in school history to reach 1,000 career points. Higgs now has 1,004 career points following Monday's game. Higgs added eight rebounds, two assists and four steals in 32 minutes of play.
- For Higgs, it was her sixth career 20-point performance and her second in two games this season.
- White turned in her second consecutive double-double and the fifth double-dip of her career with 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
- Underwood notched her first career double-double with 14 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. Underwood, who started for the second consecutive game, played a career-best 36 minutes.
- Freshman forward/center Charli Collier came close to a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds. She also blocked two shots in 18 minutes of play.

Texas returns to action on Thursday when it plays host to McNeese State. Tip-off in the Frank Erwin Center is slated for 7 p.m. CT and the game will be nationally televised by Longhorn Network.
