NOTES
- The No. 10/9 Texas women's basketball team will celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday by traveling to Estero, Fla., to participate in the three-day, three-game Gulf Coast Showcase. The Longhorns open play on Friday at 4 p.m. CT against Quinnipiac, which has won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular-season title for five consecutive years and has advanced to the NCAA Tournament each of the last two seasons, including a Sweet 16 appearance in 2017.
- The Series: Texas and Quinnipiac are meeting for the first time in the history of the two programs. The Longhorns are facing a MAAC opponent for just the second time in their history. Texas defeated Canisius 92-62 on December 16, 2015 at the Frank Erwin Center.
- On The Boards: Texas has held the rebound edge in each of its three games this season and ranks 18th nationally in rebound margin at +15.7. The Longhorns are bringing down an average of 48.67 boards per game. Dating back to the start of the 2015-16 season, Texas has won the battle of the boards in 92 of the last 108 games overall.
- Taking Care of the Ball: Senior guard Lashann Higgs is the current NCAA Division I leader in assist-to-turnover ratio. She currently has 13 assists to just one turnover through three games this year. Higgs' only turnover of the season came at the 4:02 mark of the second quarter in the season-opener against Duquesne. She has played 10 quarters of basketball since without a miscue.
- Up Next: Texas will play on Saturday at a time to be determined. The Longhorns and Bobcats are matched up with Michigan and Missouri in the Gulf Coast Showcase bracket. The losing teams will square off at 12:30 p.m. CT Saturday, while the winners will meet at 6:30 p.m. CT Saturday.
TEXAS HEAD COACH KAREN ASTON
"Every time you play, early in the season in particular, you get exposed in some capacity. For us, playing Quinnipiac is a tremendous challenge for our team. They're very, very good. They're very disciplined with what they do. I'm looking forward to the challenge of that game. As we move forward in the tournament, I'm interested in seeing how we put back-to-back games together. It's a chance for us to improve every time that we step on the floor."
SENIOR CENTER JATARIE WHITE
"As a team, we just want to get better every day. Playing these three games in three days will show us how mentally tough and how physically tough we are."
