AUSTIN, Texas – No. 16 Texas (6-2) claimed the doubles point and posted five singles victories in a 6-1 win over Arkansas (5-4) Sunday afternoon at Weller Tennis Center on the grounds of UT Golf Club.
Texas opened the match by winning the doubles point for the seventh time in eight matches this season. UT's 59th-ranked duo of Christian Sigsgaard and Adrian Ortiz posted a 6-3 win over Adam Sanjurjo and Branch Terrell at second doubles.
All-America sophomore Yuya Ito and junior Colin Markes closed out the point with their 6-4 victory over Oscar Mesquida and Alex Reco at third doubles. The remaining contest at first doubles was suspended.
Sigsgaard gave Texas a 2-0 lead with his fourth straight win, a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Mesquida at third singles. Ortiz put the Horns up 3-0 with his 6-4, 6-1 victory over Jose Alonso at sixth singles. Junior Leonardo Telles clinched the team win with his 6-4, 6-3 win over Pedro Alonso at fourth singles.
Ito remained unbeaten in dual-match play and registered a big 6-2, 7-6 (5) win over Arkansas' 59th-ranked Salazar at first singles. The 54th-ranked Scott added a 7-6 (4), 6-3 victory over the Hogs' Josh Howard-Tripp at second singles. Arkansas got on the board at fifth singles to close out the match.
Texas resumes dual-match play on Feb. 25 when it hosts Georgia Tech at Texas Tennis Center.
