AUSTIN, Texas – No. 10 Texas (10-2) won the doubles session and claimed all six singles matches in a 7-0 victory over Pennsylvania Tuesday evening at Texas Tennis Center.
Texas opened the match with doubles wins at the second and third positions to claim the doubles point. Junior Colin Markes and sophomore Christian Sigsgaard posted a 6-0 win over Josh Pompan and Aleks Huryn at the second slot. Sophomore Yuya Ito joined junior Harrison Scott to register a 6-1 victory over Noah Makarome and Gabriel Rapoport at third doubles. The remaining contest was suspended.
Texas junior Leonardo Telles gave UT a 2-0 lead with his 6-1, 6-2 win over Makarome at fourth singles. His classmate Rodrigo Banzer posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory at sixth singles for a 3-0 Longhorns lead.
Texas clinched the match at second singles where Sigsgaard dealt Pompan a 6-1, 6-2 defeat. The 46th-ranked Ito finished off Kyle Mautner by a 6-3, 6-3 count at first singles, and junior Adrian Ortiz rallied from one set down to hang a 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5) defeat on Penn's Huryn at fifth singles.
Scott closed the match with his 6-4, 7-6 (2) victory over Dmitry Shatalin at third singles.
Texas resumes dual-match play on Saturday at Rice.
