AUSTIN, Texas – No. 11 Texas (18-6) took the doubles point and added three singles wins in a 4-0 victory over Bryant (14-16) Friday afternoon in the first round of the NCAA Championships.
The Longhorns advance to Saturday's second round where they will take on California, a 4-1 winner over N.C. State earlier in the day. Texas and California meet at 3 p.m. CT following the Texas women's match against Texas A&M (noon CT).
Texas sophomore Yuya Ito joined junior Colin Markes to post a 6-2 win over the Bulldogs' Luke Lorenz and Grant Pertile at third doubles. The All-Big 12 tandem of junior Harrison Scott and sophomore Christian Sigsgaard locked up the doubles point with their 6-3 victory over Matt Kuhar and Artur Jakubowski at first doubles. The remaining match at second doubles was suspended.
Scott staked the Horns to a 2-0 lead with his 6-1, 6-2 victory over Jakubowski at third singles. Senior John Mee tacked on to the Texas lead with his 6-2, 6-3 win over Wilson Dong at sixth singles.
The 110th-ranked Sigsgaard closed things out with his 6-1, 6-4 victory over Kuhar at first singles. The remaining matches were suspended.
