No. 6 Women's Tennis shuts out McNeese State in NCAA Championships opener

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 6 national seed Texas (23-4) won the doubles point and put away three singles wins in a 4-0 victory over McNeese State Friday in the first round of the NCAA Championships. The Longhorns secure their 18th consecutive win and set up a second-round contest against Texas A&M on Saturday. The Aggies advanced by way of a tightly-contested 4-3 victory over Rice in the first round.
Texas picked up doubles wins at the third and second positions to lock up the doubles point and a 1-0 match lead. Twin sophomores Anna and Bianca Turati improved to 6-0 at third doubles and notched a 6-2 victory over Charoline Erlandsson and Phonexay Chitdara. UT clinched the doubles point when senior Dani Wagland and sophomore Marta Perez-Mur dealt Giovanna Fioretti and Marija Mastilovic a 6-3 defeat at the second position. The remaining match was suspended.
All-Big 12 sophomore Petra Granic posted her 16th consecutive singles win and defeated McNeese's Hannah Brett by a 6-0, 6-1 count at third singles for a 2-0 Texas lead. Freshman Marta Perez-Mur extended the lead to 3-0 with her 6-4, 6-0 victory over Erlandsson at fifth singles.
All-Big 12 sophomore Anna Turati closed out the Longhorns' victory with her 13th consecutive win at second singles. Turati put away Sarah Jurakova, 7-6 (2), 6-1. The remaining matches were suspended.

We don't have enough tape in terms of what we need to improve on. But certainly, I would rate that as a very ordinary performance by us. I would definitely give the coach and the team that we played, in McNeese State, a lot of credit in fighting hard. But, it was definitely a below par performance by Texas today.
