Schubert is the program's first First-Team All-American since Heather Bowie in 1997.
STILLWATER, Okla. - Senior Texas golfer Sophia Schubert has been named a First-Team All-American by the Women's Golf Coaches Association for her spectacular season, it was announced Tuesday.
Schubert, an All-Big 12 Conference selection for the third consecutive season, completed her senior year with a school-record single-season stroke average of 71.76, which broke her own school record. She finished in the top-25 in each of the eight tournaments in which she competed as a senior, including seven top-10 showings and five top-five finishes. Schubert tied for 21st at the 2018 NCAA Championship, which was a career-best NCAA Championship finish.
She is the program's first First-Team All-American since Heather Bowie in 1997.
Schubert recorded 16 rounds at par or better as a senior, including five rounds in the 60s. She won the 2017 Betsy Rawls Invitational and tied for eighth at the 2018 Big 12 Conference Championship, earning All-Tournament Team honors. She was a two-time Big 12 Golfer of the Month, earning that distinction in October and November 2017.
Schubert has been selected to participate on the 2018 Arnold Palmer Cup Team and the 2018 Curtis Cup Team. She is also on the final watch list for the ANNIKA Award, which recognizes the top player in women's collegiate golf.
The criteria used to determine WGCA First-Team All-Americans included: Head-to-head competition, comparison with common opponents, scoring average, place finishes in regular-season events and tournament wins, and strength of schedule
For her career as a Longhorn, Schubert carded a career scoring average of 72.64 and posted two wins at Texas. She had 14 top-five finishes, 19 top-10 showings and 28 top-20 finishes. Schubert helped lead Texas to three consecutive NCAA Championship appearances, a pair of Big 12 Conference titles and, in 2018, the program's best finish at the NCAA Championship (T-12) since 2004.
