Taylor Fogleman earned 2018 ITA Texas Region Assistant Coach of the Year honors.
AUSTIN, Texas — Taylor Fogleman has been elevated to Women's Tennis Associate Head Coach at The University of Texas, head coach Howard Joffe announced Wednesday. Fogleman served as an assistant coach for the Longhorns during the 2017-18 season.
"Taylor is the best kept secret in college tennis," Joffe said. "He checks every box that speaks to being a top-level head coach. Just for good measure, he's also the classiest person one could ever meet."
"Taylor has helped put the proverbial 'T' back in Texas Women's Tennis," Joffe continued. "He was instrumental last year in guiding our ladies to a Top 10 national ranking, Big 12 regular season and tournament championships and wins over Stanford and Florida for the first time in over a decade. This elevation in title is just a small emblem of what is to come in his future."
The Longhorns posted a 24-5 overall dual-match record during the 2017-18 season and advanced to the NCAA Championship Round of 16. Texas earned its highest final team ITA ranking (No. 6) since 2005. The Longhorns registered a 9-0 mark in Big 12 Conference play and won their first outright Big 12 regular-season title since 2004 and first Big 12 tournament title since 2013.
Fogleman joined the Texas program on July 13, 2017 after serving the previous three seasons as an assistant women's tennis coach at Rice University. While at Rice (2015-17), the Owls won the Conference USA Championship and advanced to the NCAA Championships in each of his three seasons. A pair of Rice players earned All-America honors under Fogleman, and Rice's program produced 18 all-conference selections during his three years.
Prior to his time at Rice, Fogleman served as an assistant coach at Tulane University for three seasons (2012-14). The Green Wave advanced to the NCAA Championships in 2014, and Fogleman was selected as the ITA Southeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year in 2013.
