Women's Tennis' Anna Turati wins singles title at ITF Norman 15k event

UT senior earns her fourth ITF 15k pro circuit singles championship this year.
NORMAN, Okla. — One day after winning the doubles title with junior Fernanda Labraña, University of Texas senior Anna Turati earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory against WTA No. 909 Dalayna Hewitt (USA) to claim the singles championship on Sunday in the ITF (International Tennis Federation) 15k pro circuit event at the University of Oklahoma Tennis Club. This marked Turati's fourth career ITF pro circuit 15k singles title and her first on hardcourt surface.
Over the summer, Turati captured her first three career ITF pro circuit 15k singles titles. Each of her three previous championships came in Tabarka, Tunisia on clay courts.
After surviving a pair of break points in the third game of the opening set to remain on serve at 2-1, Turati seized the match's momentum in the sixth game. With Hewitt serving at 2-3, Turati gained separation by winning on her seventh break-point opportunity of the game. Turati then held serve and broke Hewitt again to close out the first set by a 6-2 score.
In the second set, Turati raced out to a commanding 5-0 lead before Hewitt answered by winning three-consecutive games. Serving at 5-3, Turati dropped the opening point but responded by winning the next four points to close out the match and the singles title.
A pair of Longhorns also concluded play at the H-E-B Invitational on Sunday in Waco, Texas. In singles action, freshman Gabby Cusano registered a 6-2, 6-0 victory against Karen Alvarez of Iowa State, while sophomore Marta Perez Mur claimed a hard-fought 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (11-9) win over Illinois' Ashley Yeah. In doubles, the duo of Cusano and Perez Mur dropped a 6-1 decision to Illinois' pair of Emilee Duong and Josie Frazier.
