The Longhorns will compete in Texas seven times before the NCAA Championships next March.
AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Texas will compete in the Lone Star State seven times during the 2019-20 Indoor Track and Field season before the NCAA Indoor Championships in March, head coach Edrick Floréal announced Wednesday. Floréal led the Longhorns to a pair of top-15 finishes on both the men's and women's side in his first season at the helm last year.
"We're very excited about the upcoming indoor season," head coach Edrick Floréal said. "We have a competitive schedule that will help prepare us for the championship portion of our season. Our team is looking forward to wearing the burnt orange and white, and representing The University of Texas, in competition once again.
The indoor season begins on Saturday, Dec. 7, with the FasTrak Collegiate Opener in Houston, Texas. The meet will be the first of several trips to Houston for the Longhorns this indoor season.
Texas will also travel to Houston for the FasTrak Collegiate & Multi (Jan. 10-11), the Leonard Hilton Invitational (Jan. 17), the Houston Invitational (Jan. 31-Feb. 1), the Howie Ryan Invitational (Feb. 14), the FasTrak Conference TuneUp (Feb. 15) and the FasTrak Open (Feb. 22).
The Longhorns will be split between the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invite (Albuquerque, N.M.) and the Terrier Classic (Boston, Ma.) on Jan. 24-25. They will also split the following weekend between the previously mentioned Houston Invitational and the Razorback Invitational (Fayetteville, Ark.).
On Feb. 7-8, UT will return to Albuquerque for the New Mexico Collegiate Classic. It will be the Horns' final trip to the Land of Enchantment before the NCAA Indoor Championships in March.
Texas will split again on Valentine's Day weekend, with a quartet of meets on the schedule. The Longhorns will compete in the Tiger Paw Invitational (Clemson, S.C.), Howie Ryan Invitational (Houston), FasTrak Conference TuneUp (Houston) and the Husky Classic (Seattle) that weekend.
Floréal's teams will compete in a trio of meets the following weekend, beginning with the JDL DMR Invitational on Friday, Feb. 21, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. On Saturday, Feb. 22, the Horns will take part in the previously mentioned FasTrak Open in Houston, as well as the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Indiana.
The 2020 Big 12 Indoor Championships take place Feb. 28-March 1 in Ames, Iowa. The UT women have won the last two indoor titles, and five of the last six overall. Last season, their 128-point tally was 19.5 points clear of second-place Texas Tech. On the men's side, the Longhorns will look to improve upon a fifth-place finish at the conference championships a year ago.
Texas will get two weeks after the Big 12 Championships to prepare for the NCAA Championships, which will be contested March 13-14 in Albuquerque. The UT women placed 12th, while the men took 13th, in last year's meet. Floréal and staff return 11 Indoor All-Americans from a season ago, including eight individuals on the men's side.
