No. 1 Men’s Swimming & Diving takes lead into final day of Minnesota Invitational

The Longhorns went 1-3 in the 100 Back, led by Austin Katz taking the top spot.
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The No. 1 Texas Men's Swimming & Diving team extended its lead with another big day at the Minnesota Invite on Friday. The Longhorns lead the way with 816 points, while Michigan sits in second with 542.5.
California is third with 529.5 points, followed by Arizona (357), Minnesota (303), Iowa (189) and Harvard (187.5).
The Longhorns went 1-3 in the 100 Back, with Austin Katz taking the top spot with a time of 44.93. Ryan Harty (45.13) finished second and was followed in third by Alvin Jiang (45.26).
Texas went 1-2 in the 100 Fly, with Maxime Rooney (44.83) and Alvin Jiang (44.93) finishing neck and neck.
Drew Kibler picked up where he left off on Thursday and won the 200 Free with a time of 1:30.83, which is the second-fastest time in the country this season. Sam Pomajevich took third in the 200 Free at 1:33.13, the fifth-fastest time this season.
In the 400 IM, Braden Vines finished second with a time of 3:40.09 and teammate Jake Foster was right behind him in third at 3:40.71.
Caspar Corbeau took fourth in the 100 Breast. Texas finished fifth in the 200 Free Relay, with the grouping of Cole Crane, Preston Varoza, Luke Bowman and Jacob Huerta compiling a time of 1:18.50.
Competition will resume Saturday morning at 10 a.m., beginning with the women's and men's 1650 free preliminary races. Saturday's events will also include the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly and 400 free with event finals scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
