No. 6 Women’s Tennis wins 4-3 at No. 16 Ohio State

Longhorns earn doubles point in dramatic fashion, before Bianca Turati closes out deciding singles match in three sets.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The No. 6 University of Texas women's tennis team registered a hard-fought 4-3 victory at No. 16 Ohio State on Friday evening inside the OSU Varsity Tennis Center. The Longhorns won the doubles point and received singles wins from senior Katie Poluta, sophomore Fernanda Labraña and junior Bianca Turati to outlast the Buckeyes (2-1) in a dual match that lasted 3 hours and 35 minutes.
Texas (3-0) claimed a 1-0 lead by earning the doubles point in dramatic fashion. Juniors Anna Turati and Bianca Turati cruised to a 6-0 victory at the No. 2 spot against OSU's Kolie Allen and Danielle Wolf. On the No. 1 court, Ohio State's 47th-ranked Isabelle Boulais and Shiori Fukuda countered with a 6-3 win against UT's sophomore duo of Bojana Markovic and Fernanda Labraña.
In the deciding match at No. 3 doubles, UT's Katie Poluta and freshman Tijana Spasojevic had a back-and-forth battle with OSU's Luna Dormet and Mary Beth Hurley that advanced to a tiebreaker. Poluta and Spasojevic saved several match points before rallying for a 10-8 victory in the breaker to clinch the doubles point.
Poluta continued her strong effort in singles play, defeating Mary Beth Hurley by a 6-4, 6-2 count on the No. 6 court to give the Longhorns a 2-0 lead. Ohio State's Luna Dormet got the Buckeyes on the board with a 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 5 against Spasojevic, and OSU tied the match at 2-2 after Boulais topped No. 49 Anna Turati by a 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 score at No. 2.
No. 77 Labraña put Texas back in front with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 win on the No. 4 court against Danielle Wolf. OSU again responded with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory by Kolie Allen against Markovic at No. 3 to even the match at 3-3.
The contest came down to a third set on the No. 1 court between Bianca Turati and OSU's Shiori Fukuda. Turati sealed the dual-match win for the Longhorns with an impressive 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 victory.
Texas concludes its weekend road trip with a matchup at No. 9 Michigan on Sunday, Feb. 3 (11 a.m. CT).
