No. 6 Women’s Tennis falls at No. 13 Michigan, 6-1

Senior Katie Poluta earns straight-set victory at No. 5 singles.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The No. 6 University of Texas women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision at No. 13 Michigan on Sunday afternoon inside the Varsity Tennis Center. The Longhorns fell to 3-1 on the season, while the Wolverines improved to 3-1.
Michigan grabbed a 1-0 lead by claiming the doubles point. Juniors Anna Turati and Bianca Turati continued their strong start in doubles play, improving to 4-0 this spring with a 6-3 win at the No. 2 spot against Brienne Minor and Alyvia Jones.
The Wolverines answered with a 6-3 victory by Kate Fahey and Giulia Pairone at No. 1 over UT's sophomore duo of Bojana Markovic and Fernanda Labraña. Michigan then clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win by Bella Lorenzini and Chiara Lommer at No. 3 against senior Katie Poluta and freshman Tijana Spasojevic.
Michigan, led by four individual players in the Top 65 of the latest ITA national rankings, posted five straight-set wins in singles to clinch the dual-match victory. No. 36 Chiara Lommer topped No. 77 Fernanda Labraña (6-4, 6-1) at No. 4, and No. 65 Giulia Pairone followed with a 6-4, 6-4 win against Bojana Markovic at No. 3 to increase Michigan's lead to 3-0.
No. 3 Kate Fahey clinched the dual-match win with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 1 against Bianca Turati. Alyvia Jones defeated No. 63 Tijana Spasojevic (7-5, 6-4) at No. 6, and No. 27 Brienne Minor topped No. 49 Anna Turati at the No. 2 spot by a 6-4, 7-5 score.
Katie Poluta provided the Longhorns with their only point of the afternoon with an impressive 7-5, 7-5 victory against Anca Craciun at No. 5 singles.
Texas returns to action on Feb. 8-11 (Friday-Monday) at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Seattle, Wash. Pairings for the tournament should be announced by the ITA on Wednesday, Feb. 6.
