Morgantown, W. Va. — Freshman guard Courtney Ramey tied a career high with 19 points to lead The University of Texas Men's Basketball team (14-10, 6-5 Big 12) to a 75-53 victory at West Virginia (10-14, 2-9 Big 12) on Saturday night at the WVU Coliseum. The 22-point win marked the largest margin of victory in a Big 12 Conference contest under head coach Shaka Smart.
Ramey converted 7-of-12 from the floor, including 5-of-6 from three-point range, while adding 5 rebounds and 4 assists without a turnover in 30 minutes. He tied his career highs in field goals made and 3-point field goals made. Senior guard Kerwin Roach II registered 14 points, hitting 6-of-10 from the field, and chipped in 3 steals. Senior forward Dylan Osetkowski grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.
Matt Coleman III and Roach accounted for UT's first 10 points, as the Longhorns jumped out to a 10-2 lead at the 15:00 mark. A 6-0 run, highlighted by an alley-oop finish by sophomore forward Jericho Sims, increased the cushion to nine (24-15) at the 6:24 mark.
West Virginia's Esa Ahmad knocked down a three-pointer to trim the lead to one (29-28) at the 2:25 mark. However, Ramey answered by draining his third three-pointer of the first half and Coleman added a layup to give the Longhorns a 34-28 advantage at the break.
Texas opened the second half with a 10-1 run to build a 44-29 cushion following a three-point play by freshman forward Jaxson Hayes at the 17:36 mark. WVU trimmed the gap to 11 (46-35) with 14:40 left on a Derek Culver jumper, but Texas sealed the contest with a 14-0 run to take a 60-35 lead at the 10:47 mark after Ramey finished an emphatic alley-oop dunk in transition.
The lead did not dip below 20 points for the remainder of the contest.
