No. 6 Women’s Tennis wins at No. 30 Oklahoma, 6-1

NORMAN, Okla. — The No. 6 University of Texas women's tennis team recorded a 6-1 victory at No. 30 Oklahoma on Friday evening at the Headington Family Tennis Center. The Longhorns (10-3, 3-0 Big 12) improved to 35-1 in the all-time series against the Sooners (13-5, 3-2 Big 12).
Texas grabbed an early 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point. OU's duo of Oleksandra Korashvil and Kianah Motosono registered a 6-1 victory against UT's sophomore tandem of Fernanda Labraña and Bojana Markovic at the No. 3 line.
Junior twin sisters Anna and Bianca Turati answered with an impressive 6-2 win against the No. 78-ranked duo of Martina Capurro and Camila Romero at second doubles. After dropping the opening game, the Turati twins won five consecutive games to gain a 5-1 edge and cruised to their victory.
Junior Petra Granic and freshman Tijana Spasojevic clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win against Ivana Corley and Jasmine Asghar at the No. 1 line. With the match even at 2-2, the Texas duo won back-to-back games to pull ahead 4-2. After Corley and Asghar drew within 4-3, Granic and Spasojevic won consecutive games to close out the set. The victory marked the second dual-match doubles win for the UT duo this spring and first since the Baylor match on Jan. 27.
No. 42 Anna Turati won her ninth consecutive singles match and increased UT's lead to 2-0 with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory against Capurro at second singles. Asghar pulled the Sooners to within 2-1 following a 6-4, 6-0 win against No. 52 Granic at third singles. The loss snapped a six-match singles winning streak by Granic to begin the spring.
Senior Katie Poluta improved to 8-1 in dual-match singles this spring and gave the Longhorns a 3-1 lead following a 6-2, 6-2 win against Corley at the No. 6 line. No. 75 Bianca Turati clinched the dual-match victory for UT with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at first singles against No. 19 Korashvil. Turati earned her fourth straight singles win and improved to 8-4 in dual-match singles play this spring, with five of her victories coming against nationally-ranked opponents.
With the dual match decided, Labraña added a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Romero at the No. 4 spot. No. 105 Markovic closed out the action by rallying for a 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6) win against Motosono at fifth singles.
The Longhorns continue Big 12 Conference play at No. 9 Oklahoma State on Sunday, March 31. First serve for the Texas-OSU match is set for 1 p.m. Central in Stillwater.
