White tops Orange, 12-6, in Orange-White Spring Game presented by Living Spaces

AUSTIN, Texas – Defense reigned in the 2019 Orange-White Spring Game presented by Living Spaces, as Team White defeated Team Orange, 12-6, on Saturday night. In cold and windy conditions, Team White held Team Orange to 51 total yards in the first half and 163 overall with Montrell Estell collecting a game-high six tackles, while Team Orange allowed just 121 total yards. Senior LB Jeffrey McCulloch's interception set the stage for the deciding touchdown for Team White, which redshirt freshman QB Casey Thompson ran in from one yard out. Sam Ehlinger completed 9-of-21 passes for 66 yards for Team Orange, while Casey Thompson passed for 83 yards and ran for another 42, taking snaps for Team White in the first half before moving over to Team Orange midway through the third quarter.
KEY STATISTICS
• Team Orange started with the ball and an early 3-2 advantage after winning the pregame circle drill.
• On Team White's first drive, Thompson completed his first two passes and picked up a first down on a 16-yard run.
• Kobe Boyce intercepted the next pass at the Orange 37-yard line and returned it seven yards to end the drive and give Team Orange the ball at their own 44.
• After trading punts, Team Orange linebacker Jeffrey McCulloch intercepted Ehlinger at the White 33-yard line and returned it to the one. Thompson ran it in on from the 1-yard line four plays later to give Team White a 9-3 lead.
• A Cameron Dicker 36-yard field goal on Team White's next possession pushed the lead to 12-3 early in the second quarter.
• Team Orange pushed into Team White territory for the first time on the ensuing drive before turning the ball over on downs at the White 43.
• Orange moved to the White 27 on their next possession, but a sack by linebacker Ayodele Adeoye on third-and-10 resulted in an eight-yard loss. Dicker followed with a 52-yard field goal for Orange, cutting the White lead to 12-6 with 1:25 remaining in the first half.
• Both sides were held scoreless in the second half, with Team Orange moving to the White 20-yard line in the fourth quarter before turning the ball over on downs.
