A STEP UP is the first Hall of Fame that specifically recognizes assistant basketball coaches.
Former University of Texas assistant women's basketball coach Mickie DeMoss has been named to the inaugural A STEP UP Assistant Coaches Hall of Fame, it was announced.
This is the first Hall of Fame of its kind that specifically recognizes NCAA Divisions I, II and III men's and women's assistant basketball coaches. A STEP UP is celebrating its 10th year in providing professional development for Coaches. The Class of 2019 will be the inaugural class inducted into the A STEP UP Assistant Coaches Hall of Fame on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 during the Symposium's Legends Breakfast from 6:30-8:30 a.m. CT at the downtown Sheraton Atlanta Hotel.
The 2019 NCAA Division I inductees include: Donny Daniels, Chris Dailey, DeMoss, Stan Jones, Carol Owens, Steve Robinson, Dwayne Stephens and Amy Tucker.
DeMoss, who served as an assistant coach at Texas from 2007-10, is a 40-year veteran of women's basketball. DeMoss was an assistant and associate head coach at the University of Tennessee from 1985-2000 and again from 2010-12, helping the Lady Vols win five NCAA Championships.
Over the past three decades, DeMoss has cemented a reputation as one of the country's most elite coaches. A survey of the nation's NCAA Division I women's head basketball coaches tabbed her as the top assistant in the country in 2000. She also garnered that distinction from a 1998 The Women's Basketball Journal poll.
DeMoss was a player on the inaugural Louisiana Tech Lady Techster team in 1974 and lettered for the first three years of the program's existence. She was the very first point guard in the history of the program.
