No. 4 Rowing advances to Grand Finals at San Diego Crew Classic

All four Texas boats post top-two finishes in heats, securing top racing spots for Sunday.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- After day one of racing at the San Diego Crew Classic, the No. 4 University of Texas rowing team has advanced all four boats to the grand finals on Sunday. Each boat posted a top-two finish on Saturday, with the novice eight (N8+) finishing first with an impressive time of 6:57.932.

Beginning at 10:32 a.m. CT on Sunday, the V4+ will kick off racing for the Longhorns. The four will race in lane four against No. 1 Washington, No. 2 California, No. 3 Stanford, UCLA, and Oklahoma. The winner will claim the Karen Plumleigh Cortney Cup.

The N8+, which secured its spot in lane 1, will race next at 10:56 a.m. CT against No. 1 Washington, No. 11 Wisconsin, UCLA, Oklahoma, Sacramento State, and UC San Diego (UCSD) in hopes of preserving its claim of the Laurel Korholz Perpetual Trophy.

The 2V8+ will battle in lane six against No. 1 Washington, No. 2 California, No. 3 Stanford, Washington State, and UCLA for the Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy at 11:44 a.m. CT.

Rounding out the regatta, the 1V8+ will race at 12:32 p.m. CT for the Jessop-Whittier Cup. Texas will occupy lane four and compete against No. 1 Washington, No. 2 California, No. 3 Stanford, Washington State, and UCLA.
